We are seeking volunteers for the next several weeks for Habitat for Humanity (Habitat) and for Homeless Helping Homeless (HHH), two local non-profit organizations. Habitat builds and sells affordable housing, while HHH provides motel sheltering, meals, clothing and other services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. If you are able to help, please call as noted below.
Habitat for Humanity . . .
Parishioners – and their family members and friends – are invited to sign up for a volunteer work shift for Habitat for Humanity (HFH). Habitat is a non-profit organization dedicated to building affordable housing in communities around the world. Members of our parishes have volunteered for this organization in the past, and – as noted in the bulletin of Aug. 2 - Father LeRoy is one of the veteran volunteers.
This year, coordinators have selected three work dates for our Area Catholic Community parishioners. Each date offers a morning shift from 8 a.m. – 12 noon; and an afternoon shift from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. You can sign up for one or both shifts on a given day. The dates assigned to us at this time are all on Thursdays: August 27, September 10, and October 1; and we will schedule four persons per shift.
Safety training is provided for each shift, and Covid-19 guidelines are followed: masks required, social distancing maintained.
To volunteer, you must register on the HFH website: cmhfh.org If you don’t have computer access, or have any questions about registering or volunteering, you may contact Kris Boyle at 320/248-8719 or Rose Blesener at 320/251-3901. They can help with the registration process and answer questions you may have.
The volunteer schedules are posted for the next two weeks only, but you can reserve the date/s you prefer by contacting Kris or Rose. We have two volunteers already – parishioners from St. Joseph’s parish - for the Aug. 27 morning shift. Please consider this invitation to provide a “hand up, not a hand-out” by helping to build an affordable home for an area family. Based on interest, we may add more dates later.
Homeless Helping Homeless . . .
Harry and Mary Fleegel, leaders of the non-profit Homeless Helping Homeless, are seeking volunteers to help sort clothing for distribution to persons in need. The Fleegels have received donated clothing which has exceeded their ability to “keep up” with the sorting, storage and distribution process. If you are able to help for a few hours or more, please contact Harry or Mary at 612/868-0465 or 612/868-0464. Covid-19 precautions will be in place.
