Pastoral Care Ministry News

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – over 240,000 women are diagnosed with this disease each year. Early detection is the key to not being a statistic! Take charge of your health:

Do a monthly self- exam

Get a clinical breast exam

Schedule a mammogram

MEN can also develop breast cancer; last year 2,400 were diagnosed, of which 440 died.

It is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month – Abuse is never ok – in your home or anyplace else. If you feel someone is being physically, sexually, verbally or emotionally abused, report it immediately to your local authorities. There is help available but if the person(s) being abused is afraid, it is up to YOU to become involved! Remember, abuse does not apply only to women. Many men are abused as well!

Remember those who are Homebound-It is important to remember those friends, relatives, neighbors who have been unable to socialize during this COVID crisis. All it takes is a phone call or sending a card to check in and just let someone know you are thinking of them. Many of these older adults are ‘lost’ without contact. They need simulating conversation and just to know that someone cares! In the interest of staying healthy, remember to practice good hygiene by washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds OFTEN and practice social distancing as well as wearing a mask.
